As you plan the details of your wedding, one of the considerations will be how many table numbers you will need. The number of table numbers you'll need will vary depending on the size and layout of your wedding reception.
Some couples think that having a very high number of tables is a good way to incorporate more guests in the same space. On average, however, seating for six to eight people per table is ideal, so depending on your wedding guest list size, 10-12 tables should do the trick.
The first step in counting up your tables is assessing the layout of your wedding reception. If you're hosting a plated meal and hosting guests at round tables, then you'll want to keep seating per table to a minimum. For example, if you have 160 guests and plan on having eight round tables of eight people each, then you'd need a total of eight table numbers. Keep in mind that additional non-seating aspects like buffet tables and beverage stations may take up additional space that can't accommodate additional chairs or guests!
If your floorplan allows for it or if you are serving only passed appetizers or family style meals, then it may be possible to add extra seats per table. Trying squeezing in one more chair per table so that each seating area can accommodate five people instead of four or six instead of eight; this will give you room for more guests without cramping anyone's style too much. Everyone loves having more space to move around while they eat after all! Plus it gives those who come alone an extra seatmate with whom they can socialize with, rather than being uncomfortably cooped up with folks they don't know very well.
